Brand Sizing
Brand-Specific Shoe Sizing
Shoe sizes vary by brand. Here's how the most popular brands compare so you can order the right size first time.
Nike
US / EUNike sizes run slightly small. Consider sizing up 0.5, especially for narrow shoes like Air Max. Nike uses US sizing as primary.
Adidas
EU / UKAdidas shoes tend to run 0.5 larger than Nike. If you're US 9 in Nike, try US 8.5 in Adidas. Adidas uses EU as their primary sizing.
New Balance
US / UKNew Balance is known for true-to-size fit. They offer width options (B, D, 2E, 4E) making them ideal for wide feet.
Puma
EU / UKPuma sizes are similar to Adidas — slightly large. If between sizes, go half down. Puma uses EU as primary.
Reebok
US / UKReebok runs true to size for most models. Their Classic Leather runs slightly narrow; consider a half size up for wide feet.
Converse
US / EUConverse Chuck Taylors run a full size large. If you're US 9, order a US 8 in Chucks. This is one of the biggest offsets in footwear.
Measurement Guide
How to Measure Your Feet
Follow these steps to get an accurate foot measurement at home — all you need is a sheet of paper, a pencil, and a ruler.
Prepare
Place a blank A4 sheet on a hard floor against a wall.
Stand naturally
Stand with your heel touching the wall, weight evenly distributed.
Mark your longest toe
Make a pencil mark at the tip of your longest toe.
Measure
Measure from the wall edge to the pencil mark in cm or inches.
Measure both feet
Repeat for the other foot and use the larger measurement.
Measure in the afternoon
Feet swell during the day — afternoon gives the best fit.
Tip: If you have wide feet, consider ordering half a size up — foot length measurements don't account for width.
Shoe Size Guide
How to Convert Shoe Sizes (and Why It Matters)
If you've ever ordered shoes online from another country and gotten the wrong size, you already know the problem. A US 9 isn't the same number as a UK 9, and neither lines up neatly with EU 42. Every country has its own sizing system, and they don't agree with each other. That's where a shoe size converter comes in.
Our converter takes your known shoe size in one system and shows you what it equals in every other system. Pick your gender, enter your size, and you'll see the US, UK, EU, India, Japan (CM), and inch equivalents right away. No tables to scroll through, no guessing.
Why Shoe Sizes Are So Confusing
The US uses the Brannock system. It has separate scales for men and women, with each size representing about a third of an inch. The UK also uses thirds of an inch, but starts from a different point, so the numbers don't match. Europe uses something called Paris Points, where each size is two-thirds of a centimeter. Japan just measures your foot in centimeters and calls that your size. India mostly follows the UK system, though some local brands do their own thing.
So when you see "size 42" on a shoe from Germany and "size 9" on one from America, they might fit the same foot. Or they might not, depending on the brand. This is why people end up with shoes that pinch their toes or slide around at the heel.
Men to Women Shoe Size Converter
This is one of the most searched conversions, and for good reason. More and more shoes are sold in unisex styles now. Nike Dunks, New Balance 550s, Birkenstock sandals — lots of popular shoes come in both men's and women's sizing. But the numbers are different.
In US sizing, women's sizes run about 1.5 sizes higher than men's. So a women's 9 fits the same foot as a men's 7.5. If you're a guy buying a shoe that only comes in women's sizes (or the other way around), our men to women shoe size converter shows you the right number. It also flags width differences, since men's shoes are typically cut wider at the same numeric size.
One thing worth knowing: this 1.5-size gap only applies to US sizing. EU sizes are the same for men and women. An EU 40 is an EU 40, no matter who the shoe is marketed to. If you're shopping European brands, the EU number is the one to trust.
Kids Shoe Size Converter
Kids' sizing is its own kind of confusing. In the US, there are four separate ranges: Infant (0C to 4C), Toddler (4C to 7C), Little Kid (8C to 13C), and Big Kid or Youth (1Y to 7Y). The tricky part? The numbers reset. After 13C, the next size is 1Y. Parents get tripped up by this all the time.
EU kids' sizes don't have this problem. They run in a straight line from about EU 17 for infants up to EU 39 for older kids. No restarts, no letter codes. Our kids shoe size converter handles all four US age groups and maps them to UK, EU, and CM sizes so you don't have to figure it out yourself.
Kids' feet grow fast — sometimes a full size in three or four months. We'd suggest measuring every couple of months if your kid is under 6. The CM measurement is the most reliable way to track growth since it's just the length of their foot. No math needed.
Another question parents ask a lot: when do kids switch to adult sizes? Short answer: at Youth 7Y. That's roughly a women's 8.5 or a men's 7 in US sizing.
How the Different Systems Work
The US Brannock system adds a third of an inch per size. Men's and women's scales start at different points, which is why the same foot gets different numbers. A foot that's 10.25 inches long is a men's 9 but a women's 10.5.
The UK system works similarly (also thirds of an inch) but shifted. UK men's sizes are about 0.5 less than US men's. UK women's sizes are about 2 less than US women's. Australia uses UK sizing for men but US sizing for women, which is its own kind of headache.
EU sizing (Paris Points) uses two-thirds of a centimeter per size. It's gender-neutral. EU 42 is EU 42 whether the shoe is for men or women. This makes it the simplest system for international shopping, and it's why we recommend paying attention to the EU number when buying from overseas retailers.
Japan and Korea skip all the abstraction and just measure your foot. In Japan, it's centimeters. In Korea, it's millimeters. A 27 cm foot is a JP 27. Simple. If every country did this, shoe size converters wouldn't need to exist.
Getting the Right Fit
Even with a perfect conversion, a few things can throw off your fit. Your feet swell during the day, so measure them in the afternoon or evening instead of first thing in the morning. Measure both feet. Most people have one foot that's slightly longer, and you should buy shoes based on the bigger one.
Stand up when you measure. Sitting down makes your foot shorter because you're not putting weight on it. And if you plan to wear thick socks with the shoes, measure with those socks on.
Brands aren't consistent either. Nike tends to run a bit small. Converse runs about a full size large. Adidas is usually about half a size bigger than Nike. Our brand-specific converters on this page account for those differences. But when you're unsure, measuring your foot in centimeters and matching to the brand's CM chart is the most reliable approach.
If you're between sizes, go up. A slightly loose shoe can be fixed with an insole. A tight shoe just hurts.
